Design Research Intervention
Publication: Pale Blue Dot, Toronto Metropolitan University
Material: Beeswax and various hardwood scraps
The following maquette study explores the pivotal concepts of balance and interlock, which are instrumental in various contexts for advancing innovative urban solutions. The notion of interlock is scrutinized through both physical and invisible dimensions. Conceptual drawings delve into the interlocking of urban objects and the intervening spaces to foster 'balance and harmony.' The model is crafted to represent diverse types of temporal interlocking spaces, manipulating the visible and invisible fluidity of various interlocking conditions to address the urban limitation of imbalanced and disharmonious conditions. Balance is discerned through connections among heights, systems, contextual manipulation, and interruptions of continuity. Interlocks are strategically positioned between black wooden objects and poured beeswax, honoring the unique character of each element. The hierarchy of balance varies based on the sensory experience generated by the typology of the interlock
